About this image

What are the effects of bottled water on the environment? The bottles that are used to package water are often made of plastic, which can take hundreds of years to decompose. In addition, the water that is inside the bottle must be treated before it can be sold in store. This process can release chemicals into the water, including chlorine and fluorine. These chemicals can harm wildlife and plants, as well as contaminate groundwater. How can we solve the issues with bottled water? There are a number of ways to reduce the amount of plastic that is being used. One approach is to use refillable water bottles. Another is to purchase tap water and drink it without packaging it.
